The network interface route new command creates a static route for a virtual interface. A static route is a defined route between a virtual interface and a specific destination IP address; the route can use a gateway IP address. Static routes can improve the efficiency of network traffic through complicated networks, thereby improving performance of the Data ONTAP 10.0 system.
The following example creates a static route for a virtual interface named mgmtif2 on a node named node1b. The static route uses the destination IP address 192.40.8.1, the network mask 255.255.255.0, and the gateway IP address 192.40.0.1.
node::>network interface route new -server node1b -vif mgmtif2 -destination 192.40.8.1 -netmask 255.255.255.0 -gateway 192.40.0.1
